Data deletion and retention
Last updated September 12, 2026
You can delete your Cashcal data yourself, from inside the app. No email or phone call needed. If you would rather have us do it, email hello@cashcalapp.com from the address you use in Cashcal.
Disconnect a bank
Open Cashcal, then go to Settings, Connected banks. Tap Remove next to the bank. Removing a bank does three things:
- Tells Plaid to disconnect the bank, so Cashcal stops receiving data for it
- Deletes the sealed bank access token from your device and from household sync
- Optionally erases the past charges that came from that bank, if you check that box before confirming
If you leave the box unchecked, past charges stay on your calendar as regular entries. They live on your devices, not on our servers in readable form.
Delete your account
Go to Settings, Advanced, then tap Delete my cashcal account. This removes your sign-in and your cloud backup from our servers. It also resets the app on your device.
Household data is shared. If other people are still in your household, their encrypted copy stays for them. When the last device leaves or deletes, the household's encrypted data is deleted from our servers. Deleting your account cannot unlock or recover old data.
Locked out of the app?
You can still delete the cloud copy: the app asks for the email on the account and sends a one-time code to confirm it is you. Entering the code erases your cloud copy. Or email hello@cashcalapp.com and we will handle it.
What we keep, and for how long
- Your sign-in email: kept until you delete your account.
- Encrypted household blobs: kept until the last household device deletes them or leaves. We cannot read them at any point.
- One-time email login codes: expire in about ten minutes and are deleted once used.
- Bank access tokens: never stored on our servers. They live sealed on your devices and end when you remove the bank.
- Bank transactions: never stored on our servers in readable form. Charges live on your devices and inside the encrypted household copy.
- Server backups: we keep backups of the sync database so a crash does not lose your household's data. Backups hold the same encrypted blobs we cannot read, plus sign-in emails.
What stays, and why
- If other people are still in your household, their devices keep their own copies of the shared data. The encrypted household data they sync may remain on our servers for them. It is ciphertext we cannot read.
- Plaid keeps its own records under its own policy. See plaid.com/legal to make a request directly to Plaid.
- Apple handles Bank Sync billing. Manage or cancel the subscription in your Apple account settings.
Data on your own devices
Deleting your account does not wipe the phone in your hand. To clear a device, use Start over in the app settings, or delete the app.
Need a hand?
Email hello@cashcalapp.com from the address on your account and we will help with any deletion request, including confirming that your data is gone.
